Engineering
Reliability Engineer
Job Description:
SCOPE •Provide applied, proactive Reliability Engineering support to ensure risk mitigation and long term hard disk drive suspension component and assembly product reliability through the creation and use of effective models, tools, testing, and methodology to identify, predict, and correct potential problems before they occur.
RESPONSIBILITIES •Assist the design, program development, and operation engineering teams in creation of reliable suspension assembly products in response to customer requirements and needs. •Create and actively apply effective predictive and analytical tools, test methodology, and plans to identify, predict, and correct potential reliability problems before they occur. •Work directly with customer design and operation teams to understand current materials, feature, component, and suspension assembly reliability, requirements, problems, and opportunities for improvements. •In addition to functional HDD operational use conditions and requirements, establish an applied knowledge of customer HGA, HSA, and HDD processing sequences, incorporating these into suspension feature, component and assembly level reliability models, tools, tests, and methodology. •Actively participate and coordinate, prioritize, and manage reliability model, test, and risk mitigation efforts which include the consolidation of resource inputs from product development, design, process, and technical test lab eng. and tech. support resources. •Conduct failure analysis of suspension assemblies and lead investigative activities to determine root causes of such failures through test, analysis, and applied research of established technical knowledge both within HDD and other related industries. •Provide technical leadership and direction within HTI and to the customer on matters related to suspension materials, feature, component, and assembly level product reliability in support of product and process challenges, critical decisions, and strategic direction.
Qualifications:
•Application and usage of critical engineering principals (statics, dynamics, vibrations, material mechanics, engineering economics, thermodynamics, design of experiments, statistics, etc.) •Experience and insight in the creation and application of HAST (Highly Accelerated Stress Test), HALT (Highly Accelerate Life Test), FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), FTA (Fault Tree Analysis), Weibull Analysis, QALT (Quantitative Accelerated Life Test), corrosion failure mechanisms, and Design for Reliability principles a plus. •Basic understanding of suspension performance and manufacture and their relationship to disk drives •Good communication, people, and customer interaction/relationship skills. •Good organization skills and the ability to multi-task. •Experience with FEA and CAD analysis a plus •Extensive failure analysis, problem solving, analytical, and leadership skills sets. •BSME, BSMSE, or other relevant degrees and 5+ years of experience, or MSME, MSMSE, accredited MS in Reliability Eng., or other relevant masters degree with 2+ years of experience
