    Development Center
In the fast-paced disk drive industry, time is everything. It is strategically important for our customers to be the first to market with new technology and next-generation products. To support our customers’ quest to get there first, we established a standalone Development Center where we focus intently on product and process development.
Our Development Center staff consists of over 800 employees, including engineers, technicians, toolmakers, machinists and designers. These employees work together to deliver rapid design iterations, produce prototypes and provide accelerated transitions to high-volume production.
Capabilities and resources available in our Development Center include:
Advanced Development – Engineers and technicians in our Advanced Development groups are focused on developing the products and process capabilities needed to meet ongoing advances in the disk drive industry.
Program Development Engineering – Our goal is to deliver production-quality prototypes in 5 weeks or less. Our development teams test and tune the process and then quickly transition products from prototype to volume production.
Tool Design and Build – We design and build some of the most precise and complex tooling in the industry. Precision tooling is critical to producing intricate product features with little to no part-to-part variation.
Suspension Development Laboratory – We simulate conditions inside of the disk drive to test and perfect new suspension assembly designs for optimal disk drive performance.
Machine Design and Build – Due to the complexity, precision and uniqueness of our product, we can’t always buy off-the-shelf equipment. We design much of it ourselves, as well as build and/or assemble it.
